The setup
A kite fleet working the color change just a few miles off the beach — close enough that the crowd can almost watch from shore, and close enough that cell coverage is strong all day. No radios required: the captain app carries the whole event on Pro Signal, and the release format means everything is scored by call-in, GPS, and timestamp.
How the day runs
A front pushes through and the bite goes off — eleven releases in twenty minutes across the fleet. Every report lands with its GPS fix and server timestamp attached; clean releases confirm automatically while the director reviews only the ones that need a decision, and each confirmation code is announced fleet-wide as it posts. The leaderboard swings in real time on the dock and on every phone following from home.
The difference
The flurry is exactly what breaks a radio-and-clipboard operation, and exactly what this one absorbs: no backlog, no lost release, no double-counted double-header. When two boats release within the same minute on the final day, the tie sorts by server seconds — not by whose recollection of the radio traffic wins the argument.
